Rudy quotes of the day

November 20th, 2007

Speaking about the conservatives within his own party, Rudy noted in 1993 (while running for mayor), “[t]heir fear is that I’m going to be a beachhead for the establishment of a more progressive form of Republicanism.”

“I do not look to see what the catechism of conservatism says about how to solve a problem.”

In endorsing Democrat Mario Cuomo of reelection to a fourth term as NY’s governor in 1994, Rudy explained that he did so because of George Pataki’s “very right-wing record” and his proposal of an “irresponsible” twenty-five percent state-income tax cut.

Rudy also considered endorsing Bill Clinton for reelection as president in 1996, explaining, “[m]ost of Clinton’s policies are very similar to mine.”
